Boerenkaas Cycling Route

After renting the bike at EasyFiets, the route starts at node 11 on Zoeterwoudsesingel 50. After this, the route starts on Kanaalweg where you cycle over the Boerenpad over the A4 towards the polders. The flower strips make the polders even more beautiful to see and this is a paradise for bees, butterflies, and other insects. Along the cycling route, you will find various information poles that give you more information about the farming businesses along the route. Make a stop at these farms to buy fresh milk from the milk tap or taste the artisanal farmer’s cheese. 

Continue the route through the beautiful polder landscape of Zoeterwoude. You cycle along winding waterways, green meadows, and historic farms.

During the route, you will also pass by some historical landmarks, such as old mills and churches. It’s recommended to visit the Zoeterwoudse mill, where you can learn more about grain milling and the role of mills in Dutch history.

Along the way, there are several rest points where you can stop for a picnic or a drink. Don’t forget to occasionally get off your bike to enjoy the view and the tranquility of the countryside. From node 70, you reach node 11 on the way back where you reach the city center of Leiden again.
